- Space-a
only issues one way tickets.
- There
two types of military missions, commercial contract (which fly a
regular schedule, operate from major commercial airports (gateways) ie;
Charleston (closes Oct.1, 2002) Atlanta departures on Thur. and Sun.to
Frankfurt Baltimore-Washington (BWI) Many destinations,including
Norfolk, Va.with many destinations ie; Lajes Azores, Rota Spain,
Sigonella, Sicily, Naples, Italy, Bahrain and Souda Bay Crete (Greece)
Los Angeles IAP (LAX) and Seattle Tacoma (SEATAC) have missions to
korea, Okinawa, and Japan.
- The
second type is military A/C departing from many military bases. A large
portion of their mission are unscheduled for space-a purposes with firm
schedules only known three days out and then often change or are
cancelled.
- Dover
AFB Del. is a major departure point to the East and Travis to the West.
Navy bases also offer space-a opportunities, North Island, San Diago
has many and varied departures and destinations.
- There
are space-a opportunities from many reserve / Air National Guard bases.
- Of
major concern should be the return. If you don't get to go little is
lost but if you can't return space-a the cost of commercial travel can
ruin your space-a adventure.
- It is
not wise to depart on Friday after work and expect to return on Sunday
for work on Monday, this can be a recipe for disaster, Flexibility is
cardinal.
- Timely
signup for departure and return is imperitive, about 55 days before
planned travel for retirees and dependent travel and 0001 hours the day
leave starts for AD's
- Commercial
