Description Boston,
the "Cradle of
Liberty", is the most historically significant city in the US. The Freedom Trail
is its greatest attraction. It starts at the
Boston Common and ends at Bunker
Hill in Charlestown.
The Boston Public Garden with its swan boats are known throughout the
world. The USS
Constitution is the oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy. On the
Fourth of July, it sails in to Boston Harbor from Charlestown, weather
permitting. Faneuil
Hall and Quincy Market are visited
by more people than Disney World. The Boston
Museum of Fine Arts is one
of the finest museums in the world and the Isabella Gardner Museum is
a
little treasure. Harvard's Fogg Museum
has the finest academic art
collection in the world with over 150,000 exhibits.
The
city architecture is a
blend of the old and the new. Take
a virtual walking tour of Beacon
Hill .
Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street
retain their old charm, while Copley Place and the Prudential Center
are examples of the new Boston. Shopping on Newbury Street is a Boston
tradition, Boston is one of the most livable inner cities in the US. The
Boston Common and
Public Gardens enrich the inner city. The
restaurants each have
their own distinct personalities: The Union Oyster House is
the oldest restaurant in US. Durgin
Park in
Quincy Market is
world famous for
its sassy waitresses, and Anthony's
Pier Four,
famous for its great sea food, may have the
largest volume
of diners of any upscale restaurant in the US. Legal Seafoods has been rated
the best restaurant chain in the nation. Boston is a sports
mecca. Colorful
Fenway Park is the oldest ball park in the country and
new Fleet Center is home to the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. The
New England Patriots play in their new stadium in Foxboro. Boston is
also famous for its
50 fine institutions of learning, including Harvard and MIT in
Cambridge. Boston College, Boston University,
Northeastern, Simmons, Emerson,. Suffolk, New England College of Art,

college town
atmosphere. View this MIT robtics project called Ripley. Boston
is noted for
its 35 world renown medical centers . People come from all over the
world to Boston
for treatment. They include Mass
General Hospital, Beth Israel, Dana
Farber the
Deaconess,
Peter Bent Brigham, BU and New England Medical Centers, the Lahey
Clinic among others. It is a city of interesting personalities and communities. It is the home of the Super Bowl champions, New England Patriots. There are the Boston Brahmins (the Cabots talk to the Lodges, and the Lodges talk only to God). Boston is a paradox. It is one of the most interesting and safe cities in the world, yet has a very "colorful" history of crime. It is purported that the bank robbers reside in Charlestown, the hijackers in Somerville, the drug dealers in Southie and Dorchester and the hustlers in Eastie. Steve Flemmi and "whitey" Bulger ran the Winter Hill mob, and Gerry Angulo ran the action in North End. They recently found 18 of Whitey's acquaintances buried in Quincy. The major question in Boston is "Where is Whitey." His brother Billly, the former Senate President, was until recently the President of UMASS, Mitt Romney, the new governor leveraged him out of the job. His Honor, Mayor "Mumbles" Menino has a running feud with the Boston Media. Howie Carr is his nemesis. The Archbishop, Cardinal Law recently resigned for covering up over 200 sexual molestation cases done by his priests. The big dig is one of the biggest boondoggles in history. It is $3,5 billion over budget and will not be completed until the 22nd century, maybe. John Kerry. A Beacon Hill Resident, is running for President. I hope he does better than Mike Dukakis.
Boston is the gateway
to many other tourists attractions around New England. New
Bedford, the old whaling town and majot fishing port and Fall River
also
warrant a day trip. Also, Providence RI, the renaissance city, is merely an hour away.
